Ecofys joins Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition
Ecofys has joined the Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition (CPCL). As one of the thought leaders in carbon pricing, Ecofys will support the coalition with insights to expand its evidence base for the most effective carbon pricing systems and policies.
The Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition is a voluntary partnership of national and sub-national governments, businesses, and civil society organisations that share information and lessons learned towards strengthening carbon pricing policies to redirect investment commensurate with the scale of the climate challenge.
Ecofys’ expertise has informed the work of the coalition already before. Over the past four years, Ecofys has assisted the World Bank in writing their authoritative annual report State and Trends of Carbon Pricing. Next to mapping carbon pricing developments on global and country level, the consultancy also produces innovative work in the field. Together with Al Gore’s The Generation Foundation, Ecofys has started the research partnership Carbon Pricing Unlocked. The project explores the role of carbon pricing along value chains up to the end consumers and published first results in late 2016. In addition to supporting industry to comply with all legal ETS obligations, Ecofys also investigates possible implications of future design changes to the EU ETS and other carbon pricing policies. Recent examples include research on the impact of a CO2 levy on the power sector, and on the so-called ‘waterbed effect’ and the EU ETS.
