Stakeholder and public support are critical for an enduring and robust carbon pricing policy. How jurisdictions communicate their carbon pricing policy plays a key role in creating and maintaining that support.
At COP24, the Partnership for Market Readiness and the Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition released their Guide to Communicating Carbon Pricing. The full Guide is accompanied by two shorter briefing notes tailored specifically for government and business audiences.
Some of the Guide’s key messages include: 1) Emphasizing non-climate benefits may be preferable to focusing on climate change; 2) Visible use of carbon price revenues is often key; and, 3) Good communications are built around values.
