CPLC High Level Assembly Meeting
April 15, 2016
The Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition (CPLC), a joint initiative of leaders from government, business and civil society who support putting a price on carbon emissions, will convene its High-Level Assembly (HLA) on 15 April 2016 in Washington DC for the first official meeting since being launched at Paris COP21 in December 2015.
The meeting will be led by two co-chairs: Ségolène Royal, Minister of Environment, Energy and Marine Affairs of France and COP21 President; and Feike Sijbesma, CEO of the Netherlands-based nutrition and materials multinational Royal DSM.
The HLA meeting is being held alongside the Spring Meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF), and will feature remarks from UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, World Bank Group President Kim, IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde and OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurria. The event will include finance and environment ministers from around 20 countries, with CEOs of major multinational companies and heads of international organizations.
The Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition (CPLC) emerged from the 2014 UN Secretary-General’s Climate Summit in New York, and was officially launched at COP21 in Paris. With support from World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund, the CPLC works to build the case for carbon pricing, enhance and expand existing carbon pricing programs, and share best practices for carbon pricing at the local, regional, and international levels.
